Fishing since the new year has been a bit of a roller coaster. Fish bite one day and not the next. They also have been great at disappearing. Walleyes have been by far the best bite the last few weeks. Perch remain very inconsistent. On the bright side ice travel is the best it has been in a few years. We are seeing 20-25 inches of ice across the lake. Snow cover is scattered drift with patches of bare ice. Tracks are not needed to get around. A few ice ridges are around and shouldn’t be crossed without drilling before.
The walleye bite remains best in the morning and evenings. Spoons, Glide baits, and rattle baits are all catching fish. Gold was a consistent color this week. Spoons tipped with a full minnow or minnow head. Man made structure, rock, and brush all hold fish in 5-15ft.
Perch are being caught in anywhere from 15-50ft. Getting them to bite has been the main battle. Small spoons seem to be out fishing tungsten’s and spikes this year.
The water is clear this winter. Pike spearing in back bays and shallow areas has been decent. Tip ups with frozen bait or hot dogs is also catching fish.
White bass are mainly found in the deepest basin this time of year. Spoons and small rattle baits are best for them.
We have a full selection of tackle along with all the live bait needed for a great day on the water!
Head to Ed’s!!
