Ice fishing is really starting to pick up around the lake. The cold temps the last few days is making ice! Most of the back bays and Northern Feeder lakes are sitting at 9-12” of ice. The main part of the lake is sitting around 5-8”. Of course there is always thinner areas. Ice ridges are starting to get bigger. Ice ridges are really always changing. Just because there is tracks across one doesn’t mean that it is safe. This is something we really saw last year. We are starting to see Snobears, UTVs, ATVs, and Snowmobiles on the ice.

The walleye bite remains steady. This has been the main thing that we have been able to chase with the current ice conditions. The best bite has been morning and evenings in 5-15’. Look for transition areas of rock to sand or mud. Mid day walleyes can be caught off of the structure more in the mud or sand areas. Some flooded roads have also been productive. The go to baits are 1/8th and 1/4oz spoons. Tipped with a minnow head or full minnow. Kastmasters, Buckshots, PK spoons. Go to colors are green, orange, and white. For more of a reaction bite try jigging raps and Acme Hyper Glides.

Perch have been a little hard to get to just with the amount of ice we have had this winter. Some reports of guys walking out and having some luck with smaller jigging spoons tipped with spikes and wax worms. Next week with the forecast we should have more ice and an idea of what the perch bite is.
