Travel conditions on the lake are the best they’ve been all season. The unseasonably warm temperatures have melted most of the snow off the ice, making access much easier. Ice thickness is ranging from 20–30 inches. As always, use caution around ice ridges.
The walleye bite remains consistent, with low-light periods being the most productive times of day. Spoons tipped with a full minnow or minnow head have been producing well. Orange and white hands down the best colors this week. Some anglers are also finding success with Rippin’ Raps.
We’re seeing walleyes spread out in a wide range of depths, from 5–25 feet. There are also some perch mixed in with the walleyes.
The perch bite has picked up, and we’re starting to see better numbers. We’ve been targeting mud areas in 20–50 feet of water. Pencil weights paired with small tungsten jigs have been our go-to setup. Load the jig with spikes or wax worms for best results. Small spoons tipped with spikes or wax worms are also producing.
Mobility has been key for perch. We’re staying on the move until we locate a pocket of fish. Once found, we sit on them and let the school filter through. Even small moves can make a big difference.
Head to Ed’s!
