Devils Lake, ND is nearly all ice free! The east end of the lake still has some ice; however, the next windy day should take it all off! The main lake and western end of the lake is basically ice free. There may be some patches of floating out there still, so use caution when boating around and keep your eyes open for ice or other debris.

The spawn is probably occurring in some areas of the lake and will continue on throughout the system for the next few weeks. Work moving water areas either in the current or near it. Rocky/gravely areas are what pike and walleyes are looking for to lay their eggs. We really encourage everyone to put back the females this time of year. Let them do their thing and this will ensure the lake continues to be great for years to come.

As weather continues to get nicer and water temps rise, look for fish to head to the shallower back bays to FEED. This is truly some of the most enjoyable fishing of the year. Catching fish in 2-6 feet of water is truly special! We are getting close to that happening again!!

Good luck to all and remember to HEAD TO ED’S for all your fishing needs!
