Things are happening in the Devils Lake Basin this week! Water temperatures have finally reached where they should be for this time of year. The biggest challenge now is finding the right water clarity.
Focus on areas where the wind is blowing in. Now that the water has warmed up, that could be a shoreline anywhere on the lake. Casting paddle tails and crankbaits along these wind-blown shorelines has been producing fish.
Another pattern that’s starting to shine is bottom bouncers and spinners. Try running an extra rod or two on the deeper side of the boat while casting toward shore. Some days the casting bite is better, and other days the spinners get the job done.
If you’re struggling to find stained water, don’t be afraid to fish cleaner water a little deeper in the 10–20 foot range. Bobbers and leeches have been producing well in these areas, especially during the morning and evening hours.
Hot colors this week:
Orange
Chartreuse
White bass action remains strong. Any wind-blown shoreline has the potential to hold a good school. We’re also seeing fish relating to the weed beds that are beginning to form, sometimes right in the middle of shallow back bays. Crankbaits and hair jigs have both been effective.
Pike are still being caught shallow. Size has been mixed this year, but there are a lot of younger fish coming up through the system.
We have leeches, crawlers, and minnows in stock!
Head to Ed’s!
