July 5th Devils Lake Fishing Report – July Bite is On!

Fishing on Devils Lake has been excellent, with walleyes, white bass, and pike all putting on a solid summer feed.

Walleye

The walleye bite remains strong, with fish found in 5 to 20 feet of water. Look for them around weeds, rocks, and timber.

  • Bottom bouncers with spinners tipped with Gulp!, leeches, or nightcrawlers have been a go-to presentation.
  • Slip bobbers and leeches are also effective when fish are tight to structure.
  • For covering water, trolling leadcore with small shad-style crankbaits has been productive.

White Bass

White bass are actively feeding in the weeds, rocky shorelines, and in areas with current. The bite has been best in the mornings and evenings.

  • Effective presentations include Mepps spinners, mimic minnows, jerkbaits, and jigs tipped with minnows.
  • When you find a school, the action can be fast and furious, so be ready to stay on them.

Northern Pike

Pike are holding in and around weedy bays and edges.

  • Anglers are having success casting spoons and crankbaits, or trolling crankbaits along weedlines and channels.
  • These fish are aggressive and willing to chase, making them a fun target for both experienced and novice anglers.

Overall: Fish are active and patterns are holding steady. Target structure, match your presentation to the species, and get out early or stay late to catch the best bites. Devils Lake is fishing great right now!
