September 28th Fishing Report
What an exciting time in the lake region! With resident waterfowl opener kicking off this past weekend and the nonresident opener to open on Saturday the 28th we will see an influx of people coming into the area. Fishing has been a little hit or miss as of late. High winds always make things a bit of a challenge but there is still opportunity out there.
We have been mostly trolling for walleyes lately, this being either bottom bouncers with spinners, smily blades or trolling crankbaits. Most of us prefer leadcore this time of year regardless of depth. when using leadcore smaller shad style baits are the best. Salmo Hornets, Rapala Shad Raps, and Berkley Flickershads. Go to colors are silver, white, gold, and blue. Trolling structure this time of year is usually best. Look for areas with rocks flooded roads and trees Fish in depths from 10-15ft and 20-25ft. Bobbers and crawlers will also catch fish this time of year. If a pocket of fish is marked with FFS or 2D they can be set up on. The jigging rap bite will also continue to get better as the water temp continues to drop. Most of the fish this time of year are eating on the young of the year White Bass, Walleye, and Perch. Think of this when picking size, color, and action of baits. Match the Hatch!
Pike and White Bass are being mixed in with the walleyes while trolling crankbaits.
Good reports have been coming in from the guys that are shore fishing. These people have been fishing current areas in the mornings and evenings. Casting jigs and plastics or laying a nightcrawler or minnow on the bottom with a Lindy rig would be good things to try.
We no longer have leeches in stock and we will not be able to get anymore for the remainder of the open water season. We do have Nightcrawler and Fathead minnows in stock.
Anyone looking to get out fishing while they are out duck hunting can check out https://brysguideservice.com for more information or call 701-941-9036.
We have openings and would be happy to get anyone out!
Good luck to anyone coming out duck hunting this fall! With all the rain lately muddy fields can be an issue and those coming should be prepared to be unable to drive into fields without tracks or 4 wheelers. We are seeing some birds in the area and there should be some great opportunities to get out and enjoy the weather!
