February 8th Fishing Report

It is starting to sound like a broken record this year. Ice conditions are still an issue and need to be watched. The warm weather the last week has affected many access points, shallow areas, roadbeds, and ice ridges. The ice sheet itself is still solid for the most part. It is the areas talked about above that have been the main issue. Colder temps this week hopefully will freeze up some of these problem areas. We are encouraging people to use extreme caution while traveling on the lake. If you see anything that looks different, we recommend drilling it first. We are also recommending that people do not cross ridges at this time.

The walleye bite continues to be the most productive. Moring and evenings are the best fishing structure. This can be anywhere from 5-30ft. Rattle spoons in the 1/8th ounce size with a full or minnow head. Rippin raps and Jiggin raps have also been good this week. It can be surprising at times how hard some of these walleyes will hit aggressively jigged baits.

Perch have stayed slow, it has been an interesting year for the perch. Here one day and gone the next. Another issue has been if they will bite or not. Perch can be marked in a few different areas in the lake but getting them to bite is the main issue.

The Northern Pike are picking up lately with the late ice like weather. A very fun day of chasing flags can happen this time of year until the ice out. Setting up in back bays along weed edges with tip up rigged with hotdogs and frozen smelt. Generally speaking the west side of the lake will have more numbers of pike while the east side will have fewer numbers but larger pike.

Good luck to everyone coming fishing this week! We have everything needed for a great day on the water!
